Owner's manual
Your site works out of the box with one-time-code login. To also offer the Discord button:
https://YOUR-SLUG.vardynbot.com/auth/discord/callback.php (your admin panel's Settings page shows the exact URL ready to copy) and save.Your bot and website are already built and running. What's left is on your side of the fence — about fifteen minutes of it. Work top to bottom.
In the Discord Developer Portal, open your application, then:
bot and applications.commands, give it Administrator (or at minimum Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Send Messages, Embed Links, Read Message History), and open the generated link to add it to your server.!points, !redeem, !insure) stays silent. It's the single most common setup mistake.Your slash commands register themselves within a few seconds of the bot coming online. If they don't appear, fully restart your Discord client — the command list is cached.
The bridge is what lets the bot act inside the game — delivering kits to a player's feet, spawning hordes, and running admin commands when no admin is online. We install it onto your server over FTP for you; you only need to restart the game server once so it loads.
/bridge-probe. A green result means the bot and the game are talking./bridge-probe comes back red, the bot can't reach your game server yet — restart your server once (above) to load the bridge mod, then kits, spawns and announcements work. Tell us and we'll sort the bridge out. These commands create the channels, post the embeds, and wire the buttons. Run each once, as the server owner:
| Command | What it builds |
|---|---|
/setup-welcome | Your welcome channel with the one-click Register button — this is how players link their Steam ID. |
/setup-shop | The in-Discord shop: every kit as an embed with a Buy button. |
/setup-bot-commands | A command guide players can read for themselves. |
/setup-events | The announcements channel for hordes, sieges, cargo drops and races. |
/setup-supporters | Optional supporter tiers and a private lounge. |
/setup-partners | Optional channel for communities you partner with. |
Tell your players to run /register (or press the button). Nothing that costs points works for them until they do — that's what ties their Discord account to their in-game character.
Your site is live at yourname.vardynbot.com with a shop, garage, leaderboards, live player count and stream overlays. Your welcome DM contains a one-time admin link that looks like /admin/?setup_token=… — open it once and set your password. That link only works a single time, so don't lose it before you use it.
From the staff area you control the homepage images, the hero video (or switch it off), your wording, your colour theme, your Discord invite, and your own donation link.
Stream overlays live at yourname.vardynbot.com/overlay/ — add one as a Browser Source in OBS to show live player count and events on stream.
Run /features in Discord for a panel of switches. Everything starts on. Flipping one off takes effect immediately, everywhere — the slash command disappears and the in-game chat command stops responding.
| Switch | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Grid War | Territory capture, income, diplomacy, warlords — a warlord's sector is defended by an armed boss-force, not just zombies. |
| Base Sieges | Threat-scaled sieges and the airships. |
| Hordes | Zombie hordes, spawned near a base rather than on top of players. A player just hit by a horde or siege gets a 4-hour shield from further automated attacks — admin-triggered ones still land and refresh it. |
| Duels | Player-vs-player duels from chat and Discord. |
| Cargo Alerts | Cargo drop announcements. |
| Races | Scheduled vehicle races with prizes. |
| World Events | Roaming events and location alerts. |
| Casino | Slots, dice, RPS, coinflip, player-vs-player betting. |
| Bounties | Player-placed bounties, paid out on the kill. |
| Quests | Daily quests and the login bonus. |
| Vehicle Registry | Registering, tracking and trading vehicles. |
| Raid Window | Raid open/close announcements. Turn this off for PvE. |
| Promo Posts | Twice-daily posts telling players what your server offers. |
| Vehicle Insurance | Cover for registered vehicles and paid replacements when one is destroyed. |
| Shop | Buying kits and vehicles via /shop, /redeem, /starterkit. |
| Ambient Puppets | Extra zombies spawn quietly near online players every 10 min — more life on the island. |
| Points Shop | Play-time points economy (earn by being online, spend in the shop). Off by default — while off, kits cost real in-game money instead of points. |
Run /tuning to change how hard and how generous your server is, without touching code. Each value has a safe range, and /tuning reset puts everything back.
| Setting | Default | Does what |
|---|---|---|
| Siege roll interval | 30 min | How often the game checks whether to launch a siege. |
| Siege chance | 25% | Odds of a siege on each roll. |
| Siege survival timer | 10 min | How long a squad must hold out. |
| Siege wave size | 100% | Scales how many attackers arrive. |
| Horde size | 100% | Scales horde numbers. Raise for a harder server. |
| Horde ring (near / far) | 18m / 35m | How close hordes may spawn. They never land on top of a player. |
| Daily login bonus | 0 (off) | Cash for the once-a-day login claim. Off by default — money is earned by doing things, not by showing up. Raise it if you want a retention bonus. |
| Siege survivor reward | 100 | Points for surviving a siege. |
| In-game money per point | 10 | Exchange rate when a player pays with in-game cash instead of points. |
| Race gap (min / max) | 3 / 5 hrs | How often races are scheduled. |
Almost nothing needs a restart. The exceptions are the things SCUM itself only reads at boot.
| Change | When it applies |
|---|---|
/features switches | Instant |
/tuning values | Instant |
| Website look, wording, images, video | Instant |
| Shop prices and kit contents | Instant |
| Adding a staff member | Instant |
| Bridge mod install or update | Game server restart |
Loot, spawn rates, damage settings in ServerSettings.ini | Game server restart |
| Disabling player damage for PvE | Game server restart |
You never need to restart the bot yourself — we handle that, and updates roll out to every server without interrupting play.
Everything works from Discord and from in-game chat, so nobody has to alt-tab.
| In game | In Discord | What it does |
|---|---|---|
!help | /rules | Lists only the commands you've left switched on. |
!points | /points | Point balance. |
!redeem <kit> · !kits | /redeem · /shop | Buy a kit; it drops at their feet. |

!register-here · !track <plate> | /register-vehicle-here · /garage | Register and locate vehicles. |
!insure <plate> · !claim <plate> | /insurance | Insure a vehicle; replace a destroyed one. |

!duel <player> <wager> · !accept | /duel | Wagered duels. |
!threat · !grid · !dominance | /threat · /map | Threat meter and territory control. |
| — | /squad · /join-faction · /reputation · /tribute | Squads (create/join/leave, or just team up in-game — real in-game squads are recognized automatically), faction pledges and standing. |
Four named factions hold the island's wild ground. Players pledge to one with /join-faction (a second, non-rival faction unlocks once the first reaches Allied), then earn trust by surviving trials on that faction's territory — the closer to Friendly, the harder the trial gets. Friendly+ means that faction leaves them alone and unlocks faction-exclusive shop kits; Allied unlocks a second pledge. /tribute spends points for a small, capped nudge, but trials are the real path. Straying into a rival faction's ground raises suspicion the longer they linger — a couple of in-character warnings, then a real alarm and an armed response, with a real cost to standing with their own faction if they get caught. Leaving the area in time resets it; no code changes needed on your end, this all runs automatically once /join-faction exists.
Cover costs 20% of a vehicle's shop price. If an insured vehicle is destroyed, the replacement costs 40% instead of the full 100%, and it's delivered to the owner's feet. Destroyed vehicles drop out of the garage automatically. Only scan-verified vehicles can be insured — the player registers one by standing at it and running !register-here.
Players can pay with points or with the in-game money their character is carrying — !insure ABC-123 money, or pick from the dropdown on /insurance. You set the exchange rate under /tuning.
Nobody is made immortal automatically. If a real admin wants it, they run /godmode on themselves and /godmode off when they're done — and only accounts on your staff list can do it. The bot clears any leftover immortality when it starts.
If you told us your server is PvE, your website wording and promo posts already reflect that. Two more things to do yourself:
/features so the bot stops announcing raid hours.ServerSettings.ini, disable player-to-player damage, then restart the game server. Environmental damage stays on, so hordes, sieges and the world still hurt — which is where PvE servers get their difficulty.Hordes, sieges, bounties on the squad threat meter, and the whole economy all work on PvE. Duels and the raid window are the only PvP-shaped pieces.
/bridge-probe, and restart the game server once so the mod loads./register.Anything else, come and get us — we answer fast:
